Social Media – As much use as a chocolate teapot if you don’t know how to use it

With over 25 years in the pr and marketing sector, I have witnessed lots of changes but the most profound shift is how companies are embracing digital marketing and it truly is survival of the fittest.

However, a word of caution.  As a pr, marketing and digital marketing agency, I often see businesses abandoning their traditional marketing initiatives to embrace digital. They turn down the dial on their PR campaigns because they think a website and some social posting will be enough. The simple truth is that the most successful marketing strategies are those that strike a balance between offline and online tactics.

In further updates, I will discuss connected offline and online marketing techniques but today I want to concentrate on social media.  To make it work for you as a laser targeted, cost-effective marketing tool, you need to:

REALLY think about your customer profile.

Think about what social media platforms they are likely to engage with and tailor your content appropriately.

If you have multiple social media platforms, DON’T cross post the same content to each one and think JOB DONE.  You need to understand how each platform works and make your content relevant.

So the above is vital but what is also crucial is how you implement social media advertising and here is where you need some savvy.  With over 4 million impressions on social media for my clients over the past year alone, I know a lot about what works and what doesn’t.
